DirectAdmin Subdomains Management

This KB article is for DirectAdmin for shared hosting (end-users).

You can easily create subdomains via the DirectAdmin interface. Subdomains look like subdomain1.domain.com. For example you can have a subdomain for your images, like images.domain.com etc.

How to create a subdomain in DirectAdmin:

  1. Connect to your DirectAdmin panel
  2. Navigate to Subdomains Management
  3. Enter the subdomain name in the Add Sub-Domain: field
  4. Click the Create button. Subdomain will be created and you will see it in the subdomains list.

How to remove a subdomain in DirectAdmin:

  1. Connect to your DirectAdmin panel
  2. Navigate to Subdomains Management
  3. Select the subdomain you want to remove
  4. Choose if you want to Remove Directory Contents
  5. Hit the Delete Selected button. Subdomain will be deleted.

How to create a catch-all email account in DirectAdmin

This KB article is for DirectAdmin for shared hosting (end-users).

You will see here a “how to” configure a catch-all email in your DirectAdmin panel. This will tell the server how to deal with emails coming to non-existent users.

The steps to create an catch all email are:

  1. Connect to your DirectAdmin installation
  2. Look for Catch-All E-Mail link and click on it.
  3. You have three options here:
    Fail: the sender will be notified the recipient doesn’t exist
    Ignore: the email is dropped, no message is sent back
    Address: the email will be forwarded to an email address of your choice.
    The Fail: option is the recommended one.
  4. Click the Update button.

Password protect a directory via DirectAdmin interface

This KB article is for DirectAdmin for shared hosting (end-users).

You want to allow access only to specific users to a directory on your account? DirectAdmin has a tool that allows you to password protect directories. You can for example password protect your WordPress wp-admin directory etc.

To password protect a directory in DIrectAdmin:

  1. Log to your DirectAdmin panel
  2. Navigate to Password Protected Directories
  3. Click the Find a Directory to Password Protect link. The file manager window will open.
  4. Locate the folder you want to block access to and click the Protect link
  5. Enter description for this protection (like my private directory), a username and a password.
  6. Check the Protection Enabled option and click the Save button. you will see a confirmation message: Directory Protection Settings have been saved.

DirectAdmin FTP Management

This KB article is for DirectAdmin for shared hosting (end-users).

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is an internet protocol that allows you to transfer files  to your web hosting account. You can create FTP accounts in the DirectAdmin control panel.

To create an FTP account in DirectAdmin:

  1. Go to your DirectAdmin account
  2. Navigate to FTP Management
  3. Click the Create FTP account link
  4. Enter the details: the desired username, password, FTP user’s directory.
  5. Click the Create button

To remove an FTP account in DirectAdmin:

  1. Go to your DirectAdmin account
  2. Navigate to FTP Management
  3. Select the FTP account you want to remove
  4. Enter the details: the desired username, password, FTP user’s directory.
  5. Click the Create button

How to change your DirectAdmin account password

This KB article is for DirectAdmin for shared hosting (end-users).

From time to time it’s a good idea to change your DirectAdmin password. DirectAdmin also offers the possibility to add Security Questions and to enable Two-Step Authentication with the help of Google Authenticator App.

How to change your DirectAdmin’s account password:

  1. Login to DirectAdmin installation  accessing yourdomain:2222
  2. Click the Password text+icon from the top menu. 
  3. Enter your current DirectAdmin password and the new password.
  4. Click the Submit button.
  5. You have just changed your DirectAdmin’s account password.
